A return trip can be easier with a companion retracing the way you came. Lantern Fox follows, waits, and guides back along a limited route instead of guessing a path through an unexplored cave.
A companion for the return trip
Summon the fox, then use the artifact to cycle Follow, Wait and Guide back. Let it accompany you along a simple route before asking it to retrace your steps.
The amber fox stays close and can remember up to 24 safe waypoints. Follow its return route at your own pace: it waits if you fall more than eight blocks behind and stops at obstacles. Sneak-use dismisses it.
Craft it
- Lantern Fox: 1 × ender pearl, 2 × copper ingot, 1 × amethyst shard, 1 × stick.
Open the editable project below and choose Crafting Path to check each recipe’s exact arrangement.
Before you try it
- Guide back replays recorded safe points in one dimension, with a supplied maximum of 24 waypoints. This is not full pathfinding.
- The fox waits when its owner is more than eight blocks away and stops at obstacles.
- It is a noncombat companion protected from ordinary damage. Its glowing appearance and particles do not light the world dynamically.
Each activation costs one amethyst shard in Survival, with a three-second cooldown. Creative use is free.
Download the beta MCADDON from Files for Minecraft Bedrock 26.52. Import it and enable both the behavior and resource packs in a separate world. Start with a copy of a world you care about.
Checked on Windows in a separate test world. Other devices and live multiplayer have not been verified.
Make it yours
Choose Frost or Moss for another palette. For a simpler companion, keep only Follow and Wait in Enabled commands.
Open Lantern Fox in the constructor to change the settings and build your own version. Save its editable project if you want to keep working later.
